Basketball camp handed my 14 year old a diet chart with a target weight

hazel_spoon_2904

Two-week basketball camp, mornings. She's loving it. On day four the coach gave every girl a printed diet chart. Hers has a 'target weight' at the bottom, four kilos less than she is. Nobody asked us. Nobody said who wrote it. She's fourteen, healthy, and had never once thought about her weight until this week. Now she wants to skip rice. I'm going to speak to the coach. Before I do, is this normal at sports camps now, and what other parents said when it happened.

not normal at the ones my daughter has been to. a weight target for teenage girls from a basketball coach, with no doctor or parent anywhere near it, is a strange thing to hand out. i'd ask who wrote it before anything else

I teach younger children, but I've seen what one comment about weight does to girls at that age, and it lasts much longer than a camp. I'd speak to the coach, and separately talk to her about what food does for her game, so the conversation isn't only about the number. If she likes the camp, she may not want a scene, so ask her how she'd like you to handle it.

Is it possible he gave everyone the same template and the number just comes off some height chart? Not saying it's okay. Just wondering if it was careless rather than aimed at her.

Possibly. It doesn't change much. Careless is still four kilos on a sheet she reads every morning. Spoke to him today. He called it 'general guidance' and said he'd take the charts back. She hasn't asked for rice yet.

      Replying to @hazel_spoon_2904

glad he took them back. the rice will probably come back by itself once nobody's watching her plate
