Speaking from the other end of it: my son was very certain about his direction at 15, and by his second year of college he talks about it quite differently. I would not read too much into either the changing or a sudden firm decision at 14. What I would watch is whether she keeps maths open for 11th, because that is harder to undo than the career label. Beyond that, I am not convinced a parent's steering at this age changes much.

One thing from experience and one assumption, kept separate. Experience: when our son changed schools, the shortlist we made from a distance was not where we ended up after the visits. Assumption: if your calls follow one hospital now, they may not in two years, so I wouldn't pick a school around the hospital alone.

Thank you. I asked him this morning to request exactly that: a company account and a written refund policy. He was a little annoyed, but agreed that if they can't provide either, he will let it go. Whether his classmates' certificates were worth the money is a separate conversation.

Water, inside the house. When our son was 4 we had the same Hyderabad summers, and what lasted longest was anything with water: a tub on the balcony in the evening, washing his toy cars, filling and emptying bottles. It also cooled him down. The activity books we bought lasted about ten minutes each, in my experience.

In our house the favourite thing at that age was the cardboard box the cot came in. Our son is nineteen and still prefers the packaging to the product.
