0on Parents picked a class outing venue with steps everywhere, and one classmate uses a wheelchair
I work with children with disabilities, and what I hear most often from families is that they'd rather be asked early than be accommodated quietly and find out later. Ask the parents privately, before anything is confirmed, and ask what the day needs to include for their daughter to enjoy it, not only whether she can get in. They'll know things you won't, like whether a long drive tires her out or whether she needs somewhere to transfer. Most families I work with appreciate that call.
1on What do you send in the daycare food box for an 8 month old?
Our daycare has a fridge, so a different situation, but the half-eaten box was our story too at 8 months. Turned out she was also eating the daycare's own snack and bits of other children's food. Ask what else she's getting through the day before deciding your food is the problem.
6on Client walk-throughs are moving to 7 pm, and those evenings it's just me and my 4 year old
Tell the client in advance, and give her a site-only bag: a small notebook, a measuring tape she can 'help' with, one snack she doesn't get at home. When it's her bag she has a job, and fewer hands end up on walls.
3on Class 6 entrance tests: what do they test, and when do they happen?
I work at an international school. At ours the class 6 test is English and maths, about an hour, followed by a short meeting with a coordinator. The meeting matters more than parents think. Mostly we're checking whether the child can talk about what they enjoy doing, and a boy who wants a sports ground will have plenty to say. Ask each school for a sample paper. Most will share one if you ask.
0on Passed around at a family function for four hours, and our 3 month old hasn't settled since
You're not imagining it. Hours of noise, light and new faces can leave a small baby wound up for a few days, and our daughter was the same at that age after a wedding. What helped at the next function was keeping her in a carrier facing me for most of the day. Relatives could say hello without taking her, and she had somewhere to hide her face.
0on School wants the whole year's fee by 30 June this time. No more quarterly instalments
From inside a school, for what it's worth: the finance office usually has some room for individual requests, but it has to be a short written note to the right person, not a complaint in the class group. Polite, brief, and before the deadline.
3on Delhi heat, and our 18 month old will only eat food that's cold from the fridge
Tried it. Dal and rice out of the fridge at seven, on her plate by twenty past. She ate most of it, then pointed at the fridge for the cold curd anyway. I'll take that.
2on Delhi heat, and our 18 month old will only eat food that's cold from the fridge
A middle step makes sense. Will try it at dinner today. Daycare will be easier to convince than my mother.
1on Sun's up before 6 and so is our toddler. Do blackout curtains help?
Delhi sunrise does the same to us. Our daughter's room also faces east. Moving the cot to the far wall, away from the window, bought us about half an hour. Not a fix, but it helped.
