Client walk-throughs are moving to 7 pm, and those evenings it's just me and my 4 year old

festival season and everyone wants their flat done before the lights go up, so clients who can't take time off want site visits after office. 7, 7.30 partner travels most weeks so those evenings it's me and the kid. took her to one finished flat yesterday. fine for 20 minutes, then she ran her hand down a wall that was painted that morning. client laughed. i did not do people bring kids along on work evenings regularly or is that asking for trouble

Can you move some clients to Saturday mornings instead? I have delivery dates I can't shift, so I know not everything moves. But clients who can't do daytime often can do weekends, and then you have backup at home.

Did this with my son around that age. Tablet, headphones, one corner of the room. Worked until it didn't. Maybe once a week, not every visit.

we've had our food business since our son was small and he did homework on flour sacks for years. some days it's lovely. other days you're doing two jobs badly. i'd keep it for the evenings you really can't move

My son sat in a few client offices with me during his school years, back when that was rarer. Clients mostly liked having him there. I always mentioned it on the phone before arriving so nobody was surprised. That small courtesy did most of the work.

Tell the client in advance, and give her a site-only bag: a small notebook, a measuring tape she can 'help' with, one snack she doesn't get at home. When it's her bag she has a job, and fewer hands end up on walls.
