Passed around at a family function for four hours, and our 3 month old hasn't settled since

Sunday was my cousin's engagement. Everyone wanted to hold her, and I didn't have it in me to say no to my aunts. She was fine at the time, smiling at everyone. Since Monday she's been fussy every evening, napping in short bits, and she startles whenever someone new comes to the door. Is this a real thing, a baby getting overloaded from one long day, or am I connecting two unrelated events? My partner thinks it's a growth spurt. Either way I'd like a plan for the next function, because there's another one at the end of the month.

You're not imagining it. Hours of noise, light and new faces can leave a small baby wound up for a few days, and our daughter was the same at that age after a wedding. What helped at the next function was keeping her in a carrier facing me for most of the day. Relatives could say hello without taking her, and she had somewhere to hide her face.

The carrier works on relatives too, nobody tries to lift a baby out of one. Did yours mind the heat in it? We had to give up in summer.

give her a quiet room for twenty minutes every hour or so. at our functions i used to disappear into a bedroom with mine and say she needed feeding even when she didn't. nobody argues with that

The fake feeding exit, love it. Ours is 3 months too and I've been using 'she's due a nap' at every family thing. Works until someone offers to put her to sleep for you.
