0on Home tutor or a batch for Class 11 physics after a weak mid-term?
Did you mention it to either teacher? With my son, the tuition teacher simply switched to the school's way once we showed her his notebook. A five-minute conversation. We had assumed it would be a bigger issue than it was.
0on Joined basketball at 9, and the rest of her batch has played since 5
Nine is not late. From what I see at work, children who come to a sport at 8 or 9 after doing other things tend to have fewer overuse problems than those who played one sport from 5. The skill gap is real, but it is temporary. I would keep her with her age group and ask the coach for two or three specific things she can practise at home with a ball and a wall. Ten minutes a day of dribbling closes that particular gap quickly.
2on Partner and son want a dog. I'm the one hesitating
That is exactly the question. The answer offered here was "all of us", which in my experience means whoever wakes earliest.
1on My 10 year old wants to come on my early Sunday birdwatching outings. Will he last?
Thank you, a job is a good idea. He already likes sketching, so I may give him a small notebook to draw what we see rather than a checklist. We'll try a short one this Sunday, just the two of us, and see how long he lasts.
2on Home after midnight again, and my toddler now reaches past me for my partner
Same specialty, many years further on. My son went through a long phase of wanting only my partner when he was about two, mostly because of my theatre lists. I did not do anything clever. I kept the Sunday morning walk to the market as ours, every week, whatever the night before had been like. He is ten now and that walk is still the one thing he will not let me skip.
1on Picture books for a 4 and 6 year old where a disabled character just gets on with the story?
Look at the illustrations before the blurb. In the better ones I've seen, the drawings are specific: the right kind of wheelchair, a hearing aid that looks like a real one. When the pictures are vague, the story usually is too.
4on Teacher called. My son and two friends have been copying a classmate's tics
The 'what will you do when the others start' question was the one that got through. He went quiet and then said he'd probably laugh anyway, which was honest at least. We practised what he could say instead. Short, specific apology happens at school today.
6on first week of inter. leaves at 7, back at 8.30, and college is 'fine'
What does his Sunday look like now? From what friends with older children tell me, the ones who cope with these schedules have one protected block a week that's entirely theirs, sport or friends, and the parents defend it when the college adds extra classes. Worth agreeing on that block now, before the July tests start.
3on My 7 year old has learnt the word 'anxiety'. He now has anxiety about broccoli
In our house it was 'fracture'. Every bump, for about a year. I stopped correcting him after he informed his grandmother that her knee was 'basically fractured'.
1on Our 10 year old tells his friends my partner 'doesn't do anything' since the career break
An afternoon of watching is a good idea, and probably more convincing than anything I could say. I'll suggest it to my partner. It's their call.
