What should the person staying at the hospital pack for themselves?

apricot_puzzle_3626

My partner's hospital bag has been packed, repacked and added to by both amma and atthamma. Every list online is about mother and baby, which is right. But I'll be the one staying with her for however many days it turns out to be, and nobody has said a word about what the attender needs. Last-minute I'll probably end up running home for things. What did you need for yourself during those days? Practical items only, I'm trying to keep this short.

my partner lived in the same shirt for two days. what i remember most is that the phone charger cable didn't reach the chair. get a long one

The long cable, certainly. I would add a light sweater or shawl, because the hospital air conditioning at night was much colder than I expected, and some cash for the canteen and the parking machine. Those were the two things I went home for.

Keep a separate folder with the ID cards, the insurance papers and the doctor's file, not buried in the clothes. My daughter is twenty-two now and that's still the one thing I'd tell anyone. You'll be asked for those papers at the worst possible moment.
