Watchman at Sri Bala Little Flower Model High School said 'come in January' for nursery. Is that right?

We live close to Sri Bala Little Flower Model High School in Malkajgiri, and I stopped at the gate to ask about nursery. Our son is one and a half, so we'd be looking at June 2027 or the year after. The office was closed and the watchman said come in January. Is January when nursery forms open at most schools on this side? And what age do they usually want the child to be by June? I'd rather not plan around an answer from the gate.

For our two, schools around Secunderabad opened nursery forms anywhere between November and January, so the watchman may not be far off. Still, call the office on a weekday and ask for the exact month, it saves you two more trips ❤️ Age cut-offs differed from school to school, so ask that too.

One more thing worth asking when you do get through: what language the nursery teacher mostly uses with the children. For our daughter it mattered more than anything in the brochure, because she had only heard Telugu at home until then.

Did you ask that at the school directly, or hear it from other parents? Every school tells me 'English'.

If they allow it, watch the nursery children being dropped off one morning. Ten minutes at the gate at 8.30 told me more about my daughter's first school than the office ever did. That was a long time ago, but I doubt that part has changed.

Watchmen usually know when the crowd comes, so January may well be right. Go in December anyway, before the rush.

Something to think about early, since the school goes all the way to class 10: you'd be choosing a place for possibly twelve years for a child who isn't two yet. That can be a good thing, no admissions again, or it can make it harder to move later if it doesn't suit him. We went back and forth on this for a long time and I'm still not sure we chose for the right reasons.
