he's swum since he was seven and has stopped enjoying laps. now he wants to train as a lifeguard. he's found a course that's ten days, pool and first aid, with a test at the end. i don't know anyone who's done one. i like that it's useful. i'm less sure what a boy his age does with the certificate after

My nephew did one in Kochi at 17. There was a long swim test on day one and about half the group didn't pass it. He still talks about it.

Did his course include a proper CPR and first aid certification, or only pool rescue? For a teenager that's the part I would care about, whether or not he ever works at a pool.

Physician here. Even if he never works a shift, the CPR part alone is worth ten days. Most adults I meet have never done it.

Is there a minimum age for these? I have a daughter about the same age who would rather be anywhere than in a classroom in the holidays, and I wasn't sure they take anyone under 18.
