Saw the big ground at Prince High School in Bolarum on a birdwatching morning. How much should a ground decide a primary school?

I was out early near Bolarum on Sunday with binoculars and walked past Prince High School. From the gate there was more open ground than I've seen at any school on our side of the city. My two boys, in class 1 and class 3, care about football and almost nothing else, so I came home thinking about it far more than I expected. It's not close to us, and their current ICSE school is fine. But fine includes a rooftop court and PE in a hall most of the monsoon. For those who've chosen a primary school: how much weight did a proper ground carry for you, compared with the usual things?

a ground is only as good as the games periods. ask how often the little classes get out there 🤷

Good point, I'll ask. The boys would cheerfully skip lunch for it, so the timetable matters more than the size.

My granddaughter's school has only a small ground. Her teachers walk the class to a park nearby once a week, and she's perfectly happy and runs about plenty. A big ground is a bonus. I wouldn't move children for it alone.

Our daughter is still tiny, but I think about this already. Every school near us is a building with a basketball court on the roof. Kids need somewhere to fall over that isn't concrete.

Rooftop court is exactly what we have now. They play, they enjoy it, but it isn't the same as a muddy field. Still thinking about everyone's point on the ride, though.

How far is Bolarum from you? A ground that's 45 minutes away costs about the time they'd spend playing on it.

My son's school had a huge ground and he spent twelve years on it. What I remember now is the bus, two hours a day. I'd choose the ride first and the ground second ❤️

What happens in a normal week there? How many PE periods, and are they on the ground or indoors when it rains? If you find out, do share. That's the detail brochures never have.
