Our who-does-what list was meant to keep things fair. It has turned into scorekeeping

My partner and I are both architects and used to split things without much discussion. Since our toddler started daycare, we've kept a shared list: drop, pickup, night wakings, the daycare bag, doctor visits. It was supposed to stop arguments. Now we argue about whether a 6 am wake-up counts the same as a 2 am one. Has anyone kept a list like this and stayed sane, or should we just drop it?

No children yet, but we keep a list for the house, and the same argument happens over whether cooking counts more than dishes. What helped us was agreeing on the categories once and then not scoring individual days. It has held for about a year ♥

We had one when our son was small. It lasted a year, then we stopped because the arguments were about the list, not the work 🙂 What replaced it was each of us owning whole jobs. One did all the mornings, the other all the doctor visits and forms.

      Replying to @cedar_balcony_3834

Whole jobs worked for us too, until one of us travelled. Then the 'owner' of mornings was in Pune and the system fell over 😄 We kept a list only for travel weeks. Doesn't have to be one or the other.
