Our 4 year old loved preschool before the holidays. Now she says she isn't going back

peach_compass_1070

A month with my parents in Kerala: cousins, mangoes, her ammamma's undivided attention. Since we came home she has been saying, very calmly, that she is not going back to school. No tears, just a statement, as if it has been decided. Before the break she ran in every morning. Preschool restarts in two weeks and I'm not sure how much to talk about it beforehand. Do I build it up, or leave it alone and deal with the first morning when it comes?

  • same after every trip to my parents in gujarat. back to normal about a week into school each time. we didn't talk it up much, just mentioned her friends now and then

  • Our son did this at 4 after a long stay at nani's. We walked past the school a couple of times in the last week of the holidays and he bumped into his teacher once. That did more than any talk at home.

Does she say why, or is it just the holiday ending? Those are different problems. If it's only the holiday, it usually goes once she's back in the routine.
