Keeping outgrown baby things for a possible second, or passing them on now?

linen_trail_432

Our daughter has outgrown the cot, the bouncer, the bath seat and a few bags of clothes. They've been in the spare room since the monsoon. The reason I haven't sorted them is my partner's 'what if we have another one'. We haven't decided anything about a second. Meanwhile a friend's family is expecting in December and could use most of it. For those who kept things for a possible second: did you use them? And if you passed things on, how did you decide what was still in good enough shape?

We kept everything for a second. Daughter is 16 now. The cot is still in my in-laws' storeroom and nobody remembers which screws go where.

We did use them, but there are seven years between our two girls. What survived: the cot frame, the steel bowls and spoons, and the woollens my saasu knitted. What didn't: anything with elastic, the bouncer fabric, and most of the clothes had gone yellow in the trunk. In the end we kept perhaps a third.

So the hard things held up and the soft ones didn't. Would you keep the cot frame again if you were doing it now?

one box per size, label on top, loft. did that for the younger one. used about half. rest went to our watchman's grandson haha

also. anything with buckles or straps, check the plastic before giving. ours had cracked in the loft heat, didn't notice till the other family pointed it out

Car seats even more so. We were told to pass one on only if we could say for certain it had never been in an accident, so ours went to my brother-in-law, who knew its whole history, and not to the colleague who asked for it.

from the receiving end, a small note on what's been checked would help a lot. a cousin gave us a bag of bottles and we have no idea which ones are newer
