Hospital maternity package, or pay for each visit as it comes?

juniper_pebble_4378

Early days for us, and the hospital we've started going to has already offered a maternity package. One amount upfront, covers the regular visits, the routine scans and a normal delivery. A caesarean and a few other things are extra, as per a list in very small print. My partner says just take it, one less thing to think about. I'd like to know what we'd be giving up first. Did a package work out for you, or did you end up paying for half of it separately anyway?

i see these from the other side. they're fine for a straightforward pregnancy. read the exclusions more carefully than the inclusions. extra scans, any admission before the delivery, the baby's care after birth, room category. that's usually where the difference sits

This is exactly where ours went over. Eighteen years ago, so the amounts mean nothing now, but our son needed two nights under the lights for jaundice and none of that was in the package. Ask about the baby's stay separately.

Room category is on the list, yes. What happens if we change doctors halfway? Nobody at the desk could say.

Get that answer in writing before you pay. Ours wasn't refundable and we only found out when my doctor moved to another hospital in the seventh month. The desk will tell you whatever gets the form signed 🤷

same with us. package covered the mother, the baby was billed like a separate patient. also the room. we booked the cheaper one, they moved us up because it was full, then charged the difference
