Grandmother had a lehenga stitched for Navratri. My daughter says it's for a much younger girl

My mother had a lehenga made for my daughter for Navratri. She chose the fabric herself and went for two fittings. My daughter tried it on last weekend and said, politely, that it is heavy, itchy and 'for a much younger girl'. She wants to wear a kurta and jeans to the garba in our society. My mother helps us on two fixed days a week and does not take a no easily. My daughter is old enough to choose her own clothes for most things. I am not sure whether festival clothes from a grandparent fall in that category, or are an exception I should ask her to make. What would you do?

can she wear it once just for the puja and photos with her nani and then change for garba. thats our deal with my son and his veshti every pongal, 30 min and done

She offered almost exactly that on her own. My mother heard 'only for the photos' and took it as an insult to the lehenga. So the compromise exists. It is the grandmother side that needs work.

then step out of the middle. my mother and my elder son negotiate directly now, i stopped carrying messages both ways. they sorted out a diwali kurta argument last year without me

That works until one of them comes back to you to complain about the other ❤ I'd still have your daughter tell her grandmother herself, kindly and in person, not over the phone. My son once said something similar to his ammamma about a shirt she'd bought and she took it much better from him than she would have from me.
