Diyas at home with a 2 year old who touches everything

First Diwali where our son is properly mobile. He's 2 and wants to touch anything that glows. How do you manage diyas at home with a toddler around? All outside? Electric ones only? We'd like to keep at least a few real ones.

Love that you want to keep the real ones. Ours is 1, so this is our first year thinking about it too. The plan is real diyas only on the outer ledge and at the door, where one adult stays, and electric ones inside anywhere she can reach. Last year she was still crawling, so it didn't matter ❤

The outer ledge worked for us until she figured out she could climb the sofa to look out. At 2 and 3 we lit them together, her hand on mine, so the flame was something we did, not something she crept up on. After that they went outside the grille.

Outside the grille is possible, our balcony has one. The rangoli is the bigger worry now. He keeps trying to walk through it.

Let him make a small one of his own first, in a corner, with a few colours. My daughter at that age left the main rangoli alone once she had her own to ruin. I can't promise it works for every child, but it costs very little to try.
