Did an inventory of the baby stuff. Four of some things, no car seat

34 weeks. Went through everything we've bought or been given, room by room, the way I'd do an asset list at work. Swaddles: 11. Baby nail clippers: 3. Nursing pillows: 2, one from each side of the family. Bottles we haven't even decided to use: 6. Car seat to bring the baby home from the hospital: none. Most of the duplicates are unopened and can go back. The question is what to keep. If you've done this recently, what did you open in the first two weeks, and what stayed in the box? Amma says keep everything, it'll all get used. Not convinced.

seventeen years ago we came home from the hospital in an auto with him on my lap. not saying that was right. just that if i did it again, the car seat is the one thing i'd buy first, and i'd stop at three swaddles.

Car seat ordered this morning. Swaddles down to 4, the rest go back on Monday. Amma has been informed.

With my first, the list of things we opened in the first two weeks was short: swaddles, a few clothes in the smaller size, burp cloths, and the nail clipper, once. I used the nursing pillow daily. The bottles sat in their box for two months. This time we keep a shared list on both our phones and nobody buys anything that isn't on it. It hasn't stopped the duplicates completely. Do your families check with you before buying, or do things just arrive?

things just arrive. we started a shared list too. works between the two of us, does nothing for relatives who've never seen it
