Aunts have started sending saffron so the baby comes out 'fair'

teal_notebook_2813

Two packets so far, one with a note. A pinch in warm milk every night, apparently. I'm a doctor. I know what saffron in milk won't do, and honestly the 'fair' part bothers me more than the saffron. But these are elderly aunts who mean well, and I don't want to start a lecture on the family group every time a parcel arrives. How did you deal with the fair-baby comments and still stay on good terms? Half asking what to say, half venting 😄

My saasu also sent kesar when I was pregnant. I took it, said thank you, used it in sheera. Nobody asked about milk. Baby is baby, any colour. Don't take tension.

Sheera is a far better use for it 😄 And yes, any colour. Writing that down for the next phone call.

My atha did the same both times I was pregnant. First time I argued. Second time I just said 'baby will come however god sends, but the biryani will be very nice' 🙂 One takes after his grandfather, the other after me, and she spoils both equally. Nobody remembers the saffron now.

The biryani line is perfect. My mother tried this with my partner and I made the mistake of explaining the science out loud at a family lunch. Took two years to live down 😂

      Replying to @ochre_pool_755

Okay. No science at family lunches. Biryani it is.
