any kids' dash at the city runs that a 3 yr old can do

fig_pebble_2973

i run most weekends and my daughter has started asking to come and run 'the big race'. she's 3. some events have a kids' category but from what i've seen it's 5 or 6 and up. anyone found something for under 4s, or is it laps of the park with me for now

  • Going only by the events we've attended, our younger daughter did a short kids' run at a gated community's sports day when she was about four; it was one lap of the clubhouse and everyone got a medal. I have not seen a citywide run with a category that young, but I would look at society or school events near you before the big organised ones.

    • Our son is about that age and we tried a 'family run' at a school fair. He ran the first twenty metres, then sat down to examine a stone. The medal was the only part he remembered. If you do go, the start line in morning sun is harsher than it looks, so a cap helps.

I'd look hard at how the start works. At our elder daughter's first event the little ones were briefly released together with the 10K crowd, and it was chaos for a minute. Our 6 year old has done much better at runs where the kids' race had its own start time.
