Annaprasana guest list went from 15 to 80 in one week

We wanted a small annaprasana at home once he's past six months. Grandparents on both sides, a few cousins, the priest, done in an afternoon. That was the plan last Sunday. Since then both families have been adding names, and we're at around 80, plus a hall, plus a caterer that "everyone uses". My partner and I are now the only two people who still think it's a family lunch. Has anyone kept one of these small without a cold war? Or do you let it happen and plan the baby's nap around it?

We had the same with our son's. What helped a little: we did the ceremony itself at home in the morning with only grandparents, and the function for relatives in the evening at a small hall. He slept through half of the second part. It took the fight away because everyone got their event.

two events is a clever split. though i suspect both families will want to be at the "real" one

update: proposed the morning-at-home idea at dinner. my mother liked it. my partner's mother asked whether the priest could stay for the evening too. we're down to 40, so progress
