we both go to the scans, but only one of us remembers the forms

small thing, probably. we go to every appointment together, which i'm grateful for. but afterwards i'm the one who books the next one, fills the hospital forms, keeps track of what we still need to buy and answers the family group when someone asks how the scan went. my partner runs a business and their days are unpredictable, so i get it. i'm a teacher, i'm used to lists. but the baby isn't here yet and i can already see how this goes if we don't change something now. not sure what i'm asking. maybe how other couples split this stuff so one person isn't reminding the other all the time.

My son is 17 now, so this goes back a while. The arrangement that lasted in our house was not task by task but responsibility by responsibility: if something was yours, you remembered it without being asked, and the other person did not hover. It took a few awkward weeks of letting things be done differently from how I would have done them.

We tried a shared list on the fridge before our son was born. It lasted about three weeks 😅 What stuck was giving each person a whole area. I took everything to do with the doctor and hospital. My partner took family calls and messages, completely, including the ones from my side. I stopped checking whether the replies had gone out. Some were late, the world didn't end ❤️

the fridge lasted three weeks for us too, and we don't even have a baby yet. handing over the family messages completely might be the easiest place to start. i reply to them anyway out of habit, so that part's on me as much as anyone.
