The book report is turning into a plot summary

banyan_compass_3381

My child was asked to write about a book and produced three pages recounting every event. The personal response is only one line at the end. I don't want to write the report for them, but how do you suggest thinking about an opinion instead of retelling everything?

The surprising-decision question may get a more personal answer.

  • A single scene can be enough evidence for an opinion; the whole plot isn't necessary.

One scene from the book is enough evidence for a thoughtful opinion.
