Taekwondo academy charges for a belt test every three months. Is that how they all work?

Son is 9 and started taekwondo in May at a place near Attapur. He loves it. The monthly fee was clear. What I didn't know about was the grading: a test every three months, each with its own fee, a new belt and a certificate, and the next one is already announced for August. Not a huge amount each time, but it adds up, and he'll be heartbroken if he's the only one not testing. Is this standard for martial arts classes here, or is every three months on the frequent side?

In Chennai my son's karate class does it every four months, also with fee. I think it is common. We are moving to Secunderabad early next year, so I am also looking for a class for him there. Do these classes in Hyderabad teach in English? He knows only Tamil and English, no Telugu or Hindi.

English everywhere I've looked, including ours. Most of the instructions are counting and a few Korean words anyway, so he'll be fine. Attapur is a long way from Secunderabad, but there seem to be plenty of classes on that side.

For both of you: watch one regular class before joining, not the demo. The demo is always the best version. And ask how many students didn't pass the last grading. If the answer is none, the test is mostly a fee.
