  • In our son's football team one parent started a simple rota at the beginning of the season: each family takes two Sundays, a car fits four boys, and the rota goes up once the fixtures are out. Easiest way in is to offer to drive first, even once. People remember who took the far ground ❤

we did this when ours played in 8th and 9th. one rule saved a lot of trouble, the driver decides when the car leaves, no waiting for late boys. write it down at the start

There is a tradeoff. A rota is fair on paper, but it ties you to a fixed Sunday even when the toddler is unwell. In our elder daughter's group, a couple of families simply paid fuel to whoever drove and swapped freely. Less tidy, more flexible.

Paid how much? A fixed amount per trip, or split by kilometre? That is usually where these arrangements fall apart.

      Replying to @mellow_violin_1140

^ was going to ask this. by km sounds like a spreadsheet lol

nobody tells new parents these groups exist. took me a whole term at my daughter's school to find out there was a pickup group

I think that is common rather than anyone keeping it secret. At our daughters' school these arrangements form among parents who meet at the gate, so families on the van route hear about them late. Could the coach share a parent contact list, if the parents agree to it?
