Son wants to bring his girlfriend home to meet us. What do I cook, and what do I say?

I'm stuck on the small things. What do you serve, and do you ask her anything at all? He's 17, done with class 12, and announced it at dinner like he was reading out a train timing. They've been friends since their tuition batch. My partner thinks we should keep it very casual. I want her to feel welcome without it looking like a family function. How did the first lunch go in your house?

nothing useful from me, mine is three. but my parents met my partner for the first time over a very stiff lunch and we still joke about it. if i'd been 17 i'd have wanted it short and to be allowed to leave early

Letting them leave early is a kind thing to do. When my nephew brought a girl home, my sister made biryani and three sweets and the poor child was too nervous to eat any of it. One good dish is plenty.
