Son keeps ending up doing the whole group project alone

Son is 13, class 8. Third group project this year and again he's doing most of it. The others "will send their part" and then don't, and he makes the whole chart the night before because his marks are also on it. Should I tell the teacher or let him handle it? He says telling the teacher will make him unpopular. Kya karein.

  • The tradeoff you describe is real: speaking up costs him socially now, staying quiet costs him effort every time. A middle path might be for him to message the group with a clear deadline, and later share with the teacher only what each person sent, without commentary. Then it's a record rather than a complaint. That is a guess at what I would do, mind you. My son is 8 and his group projects are still mostly glue and chart paper.

  • Ma ammayi had this in grade 8 too. Her school asks each kid to write a short note at the end on who did what, so the teacher mostly knows already. Maybe check if your son's school does something like that? Then he doesn't have to tell on anyone 🙂
