Son has adopted an Irani café near his coaching centre and now corrects my chai order

cedar_balcony_3834

Apparently I've been ordering chai wrong my whole adult life. He and three friends go to an old Irani place near their coaching centre after the evening batch. On Sunday he took me along. I asked for one chai, less sugar, and he stopped the waiter and ordered me a pauna instead, plus an Osmania biscuit, and then showed me how long to dunk it. The waiter agreed with him on every point. He's been going there for six weeks. Not sure how I feel about this :)

this is the nicest kind of being corrected. my father used to take me to one near tarnaka on sunday mornings and i felt so grown up ordering for both of us. he always let me get it wrong

Mine is only 10 and already rolls her eyes at the way I order a dosa, so I have this to look forward to. At least yours took you along. At that age that counts for a lot.

Pauna is correct, sorry. Lekin the real test is whether he knows to ask for it kadak in the evening. My elder one went through the same phase near Attapur, then moved on to cold coffee in a paper cup and broke my heart. Enjoy the Irani stage while it lasts.
