Small neighbourhood school to a big campus like The Premia Academy at 10. How did yours cope?

My daughter has been in a small CBSE school in LB Nagar since nursery. Thirty in a class, everyone knows her, the watchman knows her name. For class 5 next year we're looking at bigger schools, and Premia in Langar Houz is on the list, partly because it has both CBSE and IGCSE and we haven't decided between them. The distance is a separate question. What I keep wondering is how a 10 year old who has only known one small school copes with a big campus and new classmates. If your child made a move like that around this age, what was the first term like? My partner thinks I'm overthinking it, which is possible 😄

My daughter moved from a small school to a much bigger one at about that age. She was very quiet for the first term and I worried. By the second term she had found two or three girls she still talks to. The size of the campus bothered her far less than the bus ride did.

Ask the school what the first two weeks look like for new joiners in class 5. Is there a buddy, does a teacher check in with new children, how are they placed in sections. That tells you more than the campus tour.

Is she the one asking for a bigger school, or is it more your idea?

My elder son moved schools in class 4 and found it hard for about two months. He missed his old friends and kept comparing everything. Then one cricket game at break and it all changed. You know your daughter best. Some children treat a fresh start as an adventure and some need a bit of time ❤️

I don't know this school personally, so I'll leave the settling-in part to others. On the board question: picking CBSE or IGCSE at class 5 may matter less than it feels now. The useful thing to find out is at which class the two tracks separate, and whether a child can move across before that. I would put that question to the school directly when you visit.
