Second opinion on braces for our 11 year old, around Tellapur or Gachibowli?

gentle_compass_357

Our daughter's routine dental check last week ended with a recommendation for braces, to start soon, with a treatment plan and an estimate handed over the same day. Her front teeth are a little crowded, but it doesn't bother her, and the urgency surprised us. We would like a second opinion before committing. Where did you go for one around Tellapur, Nallagandla or Gachibowli, and did the two opinions differ? Were others told this is the right age, or asked to wait?

My son was told the same at 10 at a clinic in Kukatpally. We went to a dental college OPD for the second opinion. Long wait, but nobody selling anything. They said wait a year until more of the adult teeth were in. Worth the morning.

We were in the same place last year with our daughter. The first clinic wanted to start immediately; the second suggested six months of watching before deciding anything. We went with the second, partly because they didn't push, and we're still in the watching phase. One thing I'd do: ask each of them directly what happens if you wait six months. The answer tells you a lot.

That question was useful. I called the first clinic and asked what happens if we wait six months; the answer was mostly about the price going up. We have an appointment at a college OPD on Saturday.

Nothing on braces from me, mine is four months old and has zero teeth 🙂 But my cousin's son was rushed into braces at 10 and needed a second round at 14, and she always says she wishes they'd waited. Just one story, but adding it.

We're going through this with our daughter right now. Two opinions, two quite different plans: one wants to take out teeth first, the other doesn't. We haven't decided, and may go for a third, which feels excessive. A practical thing to ask early is how often the visits are and at what time. Both clinics we saw only had weekday afternoon slots, which clash with everything she does ❤

A process question from someone years away from this: is there an age when a first orthodontic check is usually suggested, even if nothing is done? I would rather know when to start paying attention than be surprised by a plan later.

What our regular dentist told us some years ago was that a check around 7 or 8 is common, mainly to watch how the adult teeth are coming in. Nothing was suggested for our son at that age. I'm not a dentist, though, so please confirm with yours.

ask them to give you the x-ray so the second place doesn't take another one. we had to ask twice
