School has opened an 'olympiad section' for class 6 and wants us to apply. Same building, higher fee

Circular came yesterday. From this year class 6 has a separate 'olympiad section', admission by application and a short test this Saturday, with a higher fee than the regular sections. Our daughter starts class 6 and her class teacher has 'recommended' her. I asked what is different and got a brochure with the words enriched, accelerated and competitive on every page. Nothing about the timetable. Has anyone's school done this? What actually changed for the kids in that section, apart from the fee and the name. Not saying no yet. Not saying yes either :)

Teacher here, different city. We have something like this called 'enrichment'. Day to day, the difference is extra worksheets and two more periods of maths a week. Some kids love it, some just get tired.

Extra worksheets and two periods is roughly what I got out of the class teacher today too, once I asked her directly instead of reading the brochure. So it's the same school with more homework. Still deciding, daughter is keen mainly because her friend is applying.

      Replying to @plum_camera_1190

Ask who makes those worksheets. In a lot of schools it's an outside vendor's material, not the school's own teachers. Doesn't make it bad, but it changes what you're paying for.

Our daughter's school started an IIT foundation section from class 6 when she was that age. We said no. She did fine in the regular section, and the only real effect I noticed was that the friend groups split along section lines by class 8. That part I didn't expect, so I'd ask whether the sections mix for anything at all.
