Promoted to class 12 'on condition'. School wants a signed undertaking for her physics

lagoon_moon_4960

Class 11 results came today. Our daughter is fine in everything except physics, where she's below the school's cut-off. The school is promoting her to class 12 but wants me to sign an undertaking that she will attend remedial classes and that they can 'review her stream' after the first unit test. I've been told nothing about what the remedial classes are, who takes them, or what 'review her stream' means in practice. Could they really move a class 12 student out of science in June? I'd like to know what I'm agreeing to before I sign anything.

Ask them for the remedial schedule in writing and what exactly the review would look at, which test and what score. Schools vary a lot here. In the schools I have worked in, a stream change in class 12 is very rare and usually happens only if the family requests it. The undertaking is mostly to make sure the student attends. Still, don't sign a vague document.

Ask for the cut-off itself. If it's a number they made up this year, say so. Sign only what's specific.
