Preschool shutting at the end of term, with every admission around us already closed

Got a message tonight. The preschool our younger son has been at for two years is shutting at the end of the term. Owner is relocating, apparently. That's it. No warning, no suggestions. He was meant to do his last preschool year there. Now it's May, every place we know has finished admissions, and the choice seems to be another preschool for one year or a proper school a year earlier than we planned. Anyone been through a summer scramble like this? Did you find a seat you liked, or take whatever had space?

That's rough timing. A family in our building went through this a few years back, their playschool shut over the summer. They found a place by calling every preschool within 5 km, not visiting, just calling, and asking straight out whether anyone had dropped out. Took about a week. Smaller places were more likely to have a seat than the big names.

    • +1 on calling. Visiting eats half a day per place. Phone first, then visit only the ones who say maybe 🤷

any luck? also ask the preschool for some record before they close, a leaving letter or his last report. when our son moved up, the new school wanted the previous one's report even at that age
