Picked for the school cricket team's summer tournament, and it clashes with our family trip

Our son has been picked for his school's under-11 team for a tournament in mid-May. It overlaps by four days with a trip to my parents that we booked in January. He wants to stay back and play. My partner could stay with him and join us later, but that splits the holiday. Nobody has said missing it would cost him his place, but I suspect it might. Would you let him stay?

no cricket here. but last year our daughter missed her first dance performance for a family wedding, and she still brings it up. not saying that decides it. just that she remembered it a lot longer than we expected

  Our son and a football match, two years ago. Mostly forgiven now, but it comes up before every family trip! We check tournament calendars before booking anything these days.
