partner's family wants the delivery at their place in coimbatore. it's how it's done on that side and i get it. but i teach, and leave in the middle of term is a few days at most. so i might miss the first weeks, maybe more. how did other dads manage this. back and forth every weekend, or just accept it
we did the delivery at my parents' place for our son. my partner did weekends by overnight bus for about six weeks. tiring, but says it was worth it. the first weeks are mostly feeding and sleeping anyway. the bigger thing was being there when we came back home.
is the doctor in coimbatore or still here. that decides a lot

We had almost the same discussion last year. My parents wanted me to deliver at their home in Kolkata, and my partner's work would only allow a week off at a stretch. We ended up delivering in Pune and my mother came to us for two months instead. It wasn't what anyone first wanted, but both of us were there for the first weeks. Could your partner's mother come to Hyderabad instead?
