Niece got a B in 'attitude towards teachers' on her class 7 report and is mortified

Everything else on the report is fine. Mostly As in the subjects, an A in art, and then in the co-scholastic section a B for attitude towards teachers. No remark, no explanation. Her parents have asked me to find out, since I deal with the school on most things. She can't think of anything she did, and neither can I. I don't want to walk in demanding an explanation for one letter, but I would like to know whether it means something specific or whether these are filled in quickly at the end of the year. How are these grades usually decided?

At our daughter's school the class teacher fills these in, sometimes with input from subject teachers. In our experience a B there more often meant 'talks during class' than anything serious. In class 7 she got a B on a similar line, and it turned out to be laughing through assembly practice. I would raise it with the class teacher informally, framed as 'what can she work on'. Is there a PTM before the holidays where you could raise it?

I agree with asking it as 'what can she work on'. I can only speak for the primary classes: at our school the class teacher enters all the co-scholastic grades in one sitting, which I learned only because she mentioned it at a PTM. I would not assume it reflects a single incident until the teacher says so.
