New school's letter says class 5 admission is 'subject to an interaction' in June

plum_wave_8799

We paid the admission fee in April and got a letter. I've only now read the small line at the bottom: the seat is confirmed 'subject to a satisfactory interaction with the child' when school reopens in June. Our daughter is 9 and fairly shy with strangers. We've already told her old school she's leaving. Is this usually just a formality, or has anyone had a seat withdrawn at this stage? I'm not sure whether to call the school or leave it alone.

I would call, and ask two specific things: what the interaction consists of, and what happens if it doesn't go well. A school that means it as a formality will usually say so without hesitating. If they are vague, ask for the answer in writing. Better to know now than after reopening.

this is useful even for me. son is 1 and i've already noticed how many forms have small print nobody reads till it matters

I'd want to know what 'satisfactory' is measured against. From what I've seen, for a class 5 joiner it is usually a conversation and maybe some reading, not a test she can fail by being shy. Still, a shy child might stay quiet, so tell them in advance that she takes time with strangers. Then they can't be surprised by it.
