My partner's school holidays start soon and they want to take over the baby days. The family isn't convinced

My partner teaches, and the summer holidays start in a couple of weeks. The plan we made together: my partner does the weekday baby days till June, I go back to the office a little earlier than planned, and Dadi-Dadu keep their Tuesdays and Thursdays as backup. My mother-in-law thinks a 2 month old 'needs her mother' and that this is all a bit modern. My own mother is quietly worried about the feeds. We've worked out the expressing and the bottles and all of it, and most days I'm sure about the plan 🙂 Did anyone do something like this at this age? What did you wish you'd known before the first week?

  • I did a stretch of the baby days with our younger one, later than two months, but a lot of it carries over. The first week was mostly me learning signals my partner already read without thinking. Write the little things down for each other: how she likes to be burped, which song works, what the fussy cry before sleep sounds like. And let your partner find their own way with some of it. My way wasn't wrong, just different from my partner's ❤️

Writing the little things down is a good idea. There's a lot in my head that I've never said out loud. Starting a list tonight.

In my time this would have needed a family meeting. My partner did the evenings with our daughter when she was small, and my aaji was certain the baby would forget me. She didn't. The grandparents came round once they saw the baby was thriving. Give them a role in the plan, not just an opinion about it.
