Moving from ICSE to State Board for class 10. Is that even done? Looking at Quantums in Bowenpally

My daughter is in ICSE, class 9. She is a sincere girl, works every evening, and still feels she is drowning. Too many subjects, too much to memorise. I teach myself, so I know the ICSE load is real, but watching your own child is different. One option we are discussing at home is moving her to a State Board school for class 10. Quantums Modern Mission High School in Bowenpally is on my route, and it goes up to class 10, so it came up. Two questions. Does anyone know if they take students into class 10 at all? And has anyone's child switched boards this late? I am worried we would be fixing one problem and creating another.

my son moved boards after class 8, not 9. the year of adjusting was the hard part, more than the syllabus. in class 10 there's no adjusting year, it's straight into the exam.

This is the bit that worries me for our elder one too. He's in ICSE class 8 and finding it heavy. If we ever switch it would have to be now-ish, not in the board year. I'd like to hear what you decide.

Before anything else, I'd sit with her report and find out if it is really the number of subjects, or one or two subjects dragging everything. With my elder girl it turned out to be history and civics only, all those dates. Once we sorted out how she revised those, the 'drowning' feeling went down a lot. Not saying that's your case, but worth checking first.

Agree. 'Load' is vague. Which subjects is she losing marks in? A board switch only helps if those are the ones that get lighter.

Fair, both of you. Mainly the second language, Hindi, and the sheer amount of geography. Maths and science she likes. Her mashi says I am overthinking it. Maybe, maybe not. I will sit with her report this weekend.

No experience at that age, my son is in preschool. But when we joined our ICSE school they told us they don't take new students into class 10. Most schools seem to be strict about class 10 entry, both ways. I'd check with your current school too, about how they handle a transfer certificate mid-way.

Our daughter did SSC after a CBSE primary, though she moved much earlier than class 10. For what it's worth, the board on her class 10 certificate stopped mattering once she reached intermediate. Colleges looked at the inter marks and the entrance scores.

What does she want? At 14 she'll have a strong view, and she'd be the one walking into a new class for the final year, without her friends.

What does her class teacher think? They see how she does in tests, not only the homework.

I have no experience with this school, so take this as a general point. I would separate the two questions. Whether she should change boards is a long discussion. Whether this school takes class 10 joiners can be answered with one phone call to the office. I would make the call first, so you know whether the long discussion is even needed.
