Moving across the city in January. Do schools take a class 2 child mid-year?

We're likely to move from Tarnaka to the north of the city around January because of my work. Our elder daughter is in class 9 and will stay in her school whatever the commute; changing in the board years isn't worth it. Our younger daughter is in class 2. She could either switch mid-year or do five months of a long drive to finish the year where she is. I'd prefer to move her, but I don't know how schools respond to a January enquiry for class 2. Has anyone moved a small child mid-year within Hyderabad? How did the schools handle it, and how did the child settle?

No experience with mid-year, but when we enquired for nursery, a couple of schools mentioned keeping a few seats for transfer cases. I'd call now rather than wait till December.

Following this one closely. We move from Ahmedabad to the Kompally area in April for my job, with my son going into class 8. Every school I've phoned so far says "apply in January, seats depend". Nobody commits to anything. If you find a school that gives a straight answer, please share it here.

My sister moved her son in class 2, in November. He was fine within a month. The hardest part was the new school wanting a different handwriting style, not the friends. Kids that age bounce back faster than we do.
