Long drive for Diwali with a 3 month old. Everyone in the family has a different opinion

My partner's family wants the baby home for Diwali. Nellore side, 4 to 5 hrs from Porur by car. She'll be about 3.5 months by then. My mother says too early. My MIL says she travelled with my partner at 40 days and nothing happened. The family group has forwarded four articles that contradict each other. Paed visit is on Saturday, I'll ask about the drive itself there. What I want from parents here: if you did a long drive with a 3 or 4 month old, what made it easier and what made it harder?

Same question from the other end. My wife is at her parents' place in Suryapet, seven months along, and we're still deciding whether the delivery happens there or here in Hyderabad. If it's there, the first drive back with the baby will be at about 3 months, like yours. So I'm reading this for myself also. How are you planning the stops?

Haven't planned much yet tbh. Thinking we leave at 5 am so she sleeps the first stretch, stop at the 2 hr mark for a feed. The drive I can manage. It's 4 days of 30 relatives + crackers that worries me more.

Update since you're doing a similar drive soon. Paed said the drive is fine with feed breaks, keep her out of direct sun and away from the cracker smoke. Nothing about the relatives. That's apparently my department.

We made a similar trip to my parents' place when our son was about four months old. The drive was the easy part. What tired him was being passed from lap to lap for an entire evening. We agreed beforehand that one of us would take him to a quiet room every couple of hours, regardless of who was asking to hold him. It raised one or two eyebrows and was worth it.

Assigning myself that job. My mother has also volunteered, which should be interesting since she's the one who said don't go.
