I tell parents early smiles are just wind. My son saves his biggest grin for a full nappy

Obstetrician, so I usually hand babies over and never see what comes next. Now I have a 6 month old who gives me his widest smile, eye contact and all, at exactly the moment he's filling his nappy. Every time. My mother says he's sharing. I've stopped correcting anyone about wind.

Enjoy the warning system while it lasts. Ours moved on to hiding behind the curtain, which was worse.

Hiding takes planning. He isn't there yet. For now the grin is all the notice we get.

Curtain stage sounds far away. Ours is 4 months and just goes very red and very serious. I'm hoping the smile version comes next.

      Replying to @violet_drum_4590

With our second, the serious face turned into a grin somewhere around five months. Now our elder one announces it to the whole house before either of us notices.

Doctors' children always prove the textbook wrong. My son at that age laughed only when somebody sneezed. Nobody could explain it then and we still can't.

Our younger one did the sneeze thing too. She's 2 now and fakes sneezes to make us laugh, so it comes back around.
