How do I explain lighter weights to my gym trainer without telling him I'm pregnant?

I've lifted three mornings a week for four years. My doctor is happy for me to continue but wants the weights down and nothing heavy lying flat on my back, so I've been quietly changing my sessions. The trainer at the gym notices everything. Yesterday he asked if I was injured and offered to 'push me back up' to my old numbers. We aren't telling anyone outside close family yet. Did anyone manage this without announcing it at the gym, or should I just tell him and ask him to keep it to himself?

Same thing at my badminton club. I said I'm 'managing a back issue' and nobody asked further. Not even a lie, my back does hurt now 😅

Could you move to a time slot when he isn't on the floor, just for a while?

When we were expecting our daughter, my partner's trainer guessed before anyone in the family did, and kept it completely quiet. Trainers see this often. If he's decent, telling him might make your sessions safer than working around him.
