His class 10 group is splitting up. Most are off to integrated inter colleges, and he is staying for ISC

Our son finished his ICSE papers in March. Since then the main topic among his friends has not been results but where everyone is going next. Of the six boys he is closest to, four have taken seats at integrated junior colleges with entrance coaching. He and one other boy are staying on at our school for ISC, which was his own preference and one we agreed with. He has become quiet about it. He still goes out with them, but he comes back and says very little, and he has stopped mentioning June altogether. I cannot tell whether he is second-guessing the decision or simply sad that the group will not be together. For parents who have been through this after class 10: did the friendships hold once the timetables diverged? And did you raise the subject, or wait for your child to?

We are in the middle of the same thing with our elder daughter, on the CBSE side. Her group is going three different ways, two to integrated colleges and one to another city. What I have noticed is that the planning has become the friendship for now: they talk about each other's colleges more than their own. I have not raised it directly. I did ask her in the car which of them she thought she would still see in a year, and that started a longer conversation than any direct question would have. How it holds once their days look completely different, I don't know yet. I would like to hear from someone further along too.
