Fifteen minutes in a light drizzle with my 4 month old, and three neighbours had something to say

Evening walk yesterday. Baby in the pram, rain cover on, light drizzle, fifteen minutes around the compound. By the time I got back upstairs, three separate neighbours had told me, or told the security guard to tell me, that a baby that small shouldn't be outside in this weather. He was dry. He was asleep. I was the one who got wet. I go back to work in a couple of months and I'd like to keep this walk while I still can. Is there a real reason not to take a covered, warm baby out in drizzle? And separately, how do you handle neighbours who think they're helping?

My partner went through the same thing with our son, in winter rather than the monsoon, but the neighbours were identical. Our paediatrician's view then was that a dry, covered, warm baby is fine outdoors in light rain and that the fresh air did everyone good. The neighbours were the harder part. What eventually worked was thanking them and carrying on without explaining. Explaining only invited a debate.

thanking and carrying on is probably the move. i explained once and got a ten minute lecture about wind getting into his ears.

Agree about not explaining. With our daughter, my mother-in-law was convinced the evening air brought fever. I moved the walk to late afternoon for a while, mostly for peace at home rather than for any real reason. Sometimes it's worth picking the battle that costs less.
