Family keeps questioning my partner staying home for the baby's first year

My partner has been on a planned break this year and we'd always said the plan was to go back after the baby. Now the idea is to stay home for the first year at least, and I'm fine with that. The relatives are not. My mother-in-law has asked me twice whether the house will "run properly" like this. My aunt asked if we're having money trouble. We're not. Anyone else done it this way round? How long did the comments last?

My partner's colleague did exactly this. People commented for the first few months, then lost interest once the baby came and there was something new to talk about. You might also find one or two relatives quietly come around 🙂

What do the two of you want the arrangement to look like a year after the birth? It's easier to answer relatives once that is settled between you, even if the answer is 'we'll decide then'.

Fair. We've agreed the first year. After that is genuinely open, which I suspect is what they're picking up on.
