Every relative asks which school we've 'booked' for our daughter. She isn't walking yet

Family function last weekend and I got asked four times. One uncle had a whole theory about registering before the child turns two or 'you'll get nothing'. Is this a real thing in Hyderabad now? Daycare works for us for a good while yet. When did you start looking at preschools or nursery, and was there any real benefit to starting early? Asking for real, not just to win the argument with the uncle.

it's half real. we started looking when ours was about two and a half and two of the places we liked already had waitlists. but nobody needs to book anything for a baby. tell your uncle you'll start when she can walk to the gate

That line is going straight to the uncle 😂 Two and a half is useful to know though. Putting a reminder somewhere far away in the calendar.

From our experience with two daughters: the nursery admissions we dealt with opened in the autumn of the year before entry, so roughly when the child was two and a half. I have heard of earlier registrations at a few very popular schools, but have not seen it myself. Waitlist talk at family functions tends to run ahead of the facts.
