Every cap and sunhat comes straight off her head. How do you keep anything on a toddler in May?

Weekends are the only time I get to take her out properly, and even at 7.30 in the morning the sun is fierce by the time we reach the park. She has had a cotton cap, a floppy hat with a strap and a hooded top. Each one is off in under a minute and thrown on the path, and the strap made her scream. Daycare says she keeps hers on there 🤷 Do you just go out earlier and skip the hat, or is there a trick I'm missing?

Is it the cap or the strap under the chin? Ours tore off anything that touched her neck but kept her grandfather's old cotton towel tied on loosely, like his. We let her pick it from his cupboard, which probably mattered more than the towel.

Our daughter is younger and not walking yet, so I can only speak to the pram. We have given up on hats and keep a muslin over the canopy instead. I would be cautious about turning every outing into a struggle over the cap. Going out a little earlier may be the easier battle. I have nothing beyond our own experience to back that, of course.

a carrier with a sun hood saved us. she can't reach it from inside

We went through this with our daughter at around the same age. It lasted perhaps two months. What helped was a matching cap for her soft toy, which went on first, every outing, with great ceremony. Then hers. Cause or coincidence, I can't say.

Our son was like this too. Bas, go out before seven or after five and forget the cap. The sun isn't going anywhere.
