Elder one wants A levels after class 10. Is VIP's International School in Malakpet worth a look for that?

Elder daughter, class 10 CBSE, has decided she wants A levels for 11 and 12 because a senior she follows did that and went abroad. She wants psychology, economics and English. No maths, which is the part that scares her nanna (me). VIP's International School came up because its listing shows IGCSE right up to class 12. I'm assuming that means AS and A levels, but I don't actually know. We're in Tellapur, so Malakpet would mean a long daily drive or rethinking where we live, and we're not doing either for one year of curiosity :) I just want to understand what joining in class 11 from CBSE looks like there. Would love to hear from parents there, or from anyone who has asked them.

Uppal side here. Malakpet from Tellapur on a weekday morning is the whole city, both ways. Whatever you find out about the school, do the drive once at 7 am before deciding anything 🤷

ORR helps only till Gachibowli. After that it is city traffic. I did Nizampet to Dilsukhnagar for two years for work. Not for a child.

We looked at a few Cambridge schools for my daughter's nursery last year, so I only know the early-years side. One thing I'd check before going further: whether a school that lists classes up to 12 runs AS and A levels every year, or only when enough students opt in. Ask them directly how many students are in the current A level group.

Good point, I hadn't considered that a batch might not run at all. Will call them on Monday. Didn't expect anyone else to be up at this hour.

My cousin's son moved from CBSE to A levels after class 10, at a different school. What surprised them was that he had to fix his subjects in the first week, and changing later was difficult. If your daughter is dropping maths, has she checked whether the courses she wants abroad ask for maths at A level? Economics often does.

      Replying to @teal_pool_2009

Had this very conversation with her last night. The economics courses she likes want maths, so now she's 'reconsidering economics' instead of reconsidering maths. Teenagers. I've written to VIP's asking for a visit slot, let's see.

One practical thing from my daughter's friends who did A levels: if there's any chance she studies in India after all, Indian universities ask for an equivalence certificate for the A level grades, and some courses have their own subject rules. Keep a copy of every marksheet from the start. One of her friends lost two weeks during admissions chasing that paperwork.
