Eight new girls joined my daughter's class 6 this year. Is class 6 a big entry point now?

She came home on day one with a list of names I'd never heard. Eight new girls in a section of about 36, and two more in the other section. Till class 5 maybe one or two joined each year. Not complaining, she's thrilled, half of them already sit at her table 🙂 I'm just curious whether class 6 has become the year families switch, and why. The board? Middle school teachers? Something else? Feels like everyone knew something I didn't.

ours had five new boys in class 6 last year. mostly families who'd moved cities for work, one who'd left a stricter school. by diwali you couldn't tell who was new

That matches what I noticed on admission notices this year. Several schools seem to add a section at class 6, so there are more seats then than in any other middle year. I don't know whether that's the cause or the effect, but it would explain a jump in one year.
