Does ICSE up to class 10 make the move to CBSE for class 11 harder?

violet_pool_8388

Our son is an ICSE class 9 student and has started talking about engineering, and most of the junior colleges and coaching options around us are built around CBSE or State Board. Some friends say the ICSE science base is strong, others say the NCERT style takes a year to get used to. For those whose children switched boards at class 11, ICSE to CBSE: how was the first term? Was it the syllabus, the type of questions, or nothing much at all?

We're on the IB side so not the same switch, but we looked at moving ours into CBSE for 11 and spoke to a few families who had come from ICSE. Most said the content was fine. The adjustment was the exam pattern, short answers, NCERT wording. One kid took a term, another hardly noticed.

Reading this from the other end. Our daughter is 3 and we're still deciding where she starts. My wife leans IB, I lean CBSE, and what I keep asking is whether a later switch is painful. Good to hear it's mostly the exam pattern.

Ours is in ICSE class 6. We picked it for the English and the wider reading. If she wants science later we'll handle the switch then. Encouraging that the families you spoke to found it manageable.

One more question for the parents who've done this: did the CBSE schools offer ICSE students a seat before the class 10 results, or only once the marks were out?
